We went to this despite not having a lot of prior knowledge of Lip Filler. That’s sometimes a good way to view a band as there were no preconceptions on our part. OK let’s be more honest, we thought they were going to be good from the small bit we knew. And we were not let down, in fact we left Rough Trade hooked!
What did we see? All the things we like to see. A band that believes in their own songs and a sense of self confidence. We also witnessed a very enthusiastic crowd, right into the songs and appreciative of the excellent songwriting. The band made the stage seem bigger than it is. The singer, ably supported by the rest of the five piece, hung off the mic like his life depended upon it.
Drawing on the best elements of britpop, indie and nu/new wave, latest single ‘Laugh Track’ is a good place to start. Check out the sonic blast of ‘Tricky’ or ‘Carling’ from 2024 too.
This gig proved to us it’s good to be open to new bands and always worth a look. We were certainly surprised at what we found. This band deserves our support, and we will now happily recommend them at every opportunity! We suggest you do the same.
