Looking to share great music, bands and help local venues

Dot to Dot Festival 2025 Lookahead Part 1

If you are a regular reader of OneBigHouse then you’ll know we have championed My First Time for some time now. They are likely to be one of the best things you see all day, and, if not, they won’t be far behind. Not familiar with them, then try ‘Brand New’ from earlier in 2025 or their debut ‘Wind Up Merchant’. The Fleece will be jumping at 215pm.

Another band based in Bristol are The Bible Club (pictured above). The recent EP, ‘Umbra’, is good guide of what to expect – namely some neat and structured guitar work alongside some deep vocals and meaningful words (or meaningful vocals and deep words if you prefer).  Rock out a little to ‘Plastic Apples’ and toe tap to our personal favourite ‘Umbra’. On at 3pm on the Thekla Top Deck.

One of our favourite bands from last year were Dog Race and fortunately the great run of singles has continued into 2025 with ‘Return the Day (Colours)’. We were fortunate to see them at last year’s Truck Festival, and they didn’t disappoint. If you like your pop slightly dark with a quirky vocal twist, with a sound not dissimilar to Heartworms, then this is for you. Catch them in The Fleece at 815pm, they will be excellent!

You’ll have a good day if you stay in the Fleece from the start to finish. And that includes Sex Mask. We’ve never seen them before, so don’t have a lot of prior knowledge, but we have been enjoying the most recent single ‘Circe’. Describing themselves as ‘post punk/alt rock’, we’d use words like ‘sleazy’ and ‘filthy’ if we were summarising the sound. The floor is going to pound and shake, and there will be jumping in the Fleece at 315pm.

In a different place on the musical landscape are The New Eves (pictured) who bring a wonderfully alternative sound and look to 2025. If recent singles are the barometer, then this is a band exploring some new avenues. ‘Rivers Run Red’ has the haunting strings of previous work but has a great guitar riff running through it. ‘Highway Man’ shouts and snares a little more than the older work. Find out a little more in the Louisiana at 730pm.

Not like us to get too carried away with some hype but Disgusting Sisters are well worth a listen. And let’s be honest, Speedy Wunderground don’t get too many things wrong. Last years ‘Killing it’ single was a slightly addictive singalong, with a mean bass guitar and snare drum machine underpin. If you still got the stamina then they are the headline slot in the Louisiana at 1030pm.
