Looking to share great music, bands and help local venues

Brigitte Calls Me Baby – The Louisiana – 8 Jun

There’s a coolness and calm to this band. Justifiably confident. You could feel it in the air; you could sense it within the crowd. Anticipation was there as well, an over-riding expectation of a fantastic gig. No one left the room disappointed!

To give this some context, the band have been supporting Morrissey on tour. Consequently, they are well rehearsed and at the top of their game. Obviously, the size of the Louisiana is different to the venues which they had been playing just last week. But they brought with them some big arena aurora, and some star quality has obviously rubbed off as well. They owned the small but perfectly formed stage at the Louisiana.

It’s a seemingly effortless pop sound, full of peaks and troughs, despair and joy. The vocals are perfect for the sound. They intertwine with the guitar so that the two separate sounds almost become one. There’s plenty here to enjoy for fans of early Cure or present-day Girl And Girl. The LP contains a lot of anthemic sounds, check ‘Impressively Average’ and ‘Pink Palace’. As fans, there are words to be memorised and lyrics to be cherished.

The Louisiana was full of devoted Brigitte Calls Me baby fans and those that weren’t hooked before will be now! No one will have left disappointed, an excellent way to spend a Sunday evening.
