This band was relatively unknown to us, but we are now going to remember them for a long time and are keen to see them again. Ripping and tearing through a 45 minute set to promote the LP ‘Ripped and Torn’, this was quick paced, frenetic and exciting.
There’s a mixture of styles and sounds going on here. Some psychedelia with sprinklings of late 70s new wave and 00s garage – it’s a gigantic sound for a three piece band. The stylings of the band reference the late 60s and all the revivals of that era since. It’s a classic style, and one this band wears well.
The songs are usually short with a number of them around two minutes, but full of vigour and aplomb; listen to one of our favourites, ‘(I Wanna) Break Out’. Some of the songs have a longer and noisier intro, like the title track from the LP, but still don’t outstay their welcome and clock in around the four minute mark. There’s a very good cover of ‘In The City’ by The Jam thrown in for good measure too.
The guitar sound is sharp enough it feels like it would cut. The bass and drums played with energy. The melodic and slightly understated vocals complete a wonderful and perfectly balanced sound. A young band delivering a great LP and very able to back it up live as well. This was very, very good. Get to see them if you can, buy the LP or both. You won’t regret it.
