Looking to share great music, bands and help local venues

Lightheaded – The Exchange – 22 Jul

Maybe if you call yourself Lightheaded you may need to live up to it. Slightly dizzy, maybe a little bit high on the occasion with some swaying from side to side, definitely ……well ……lightheaded! The band told us they had visited Glastonbury Tor during the day, and they had clearly brought some of the magic and the mystic vibe from Somerset with them.

Here was a perfect example of what can be called “twee” or an “anorak” sound and rest assured we use that as a term of endearment. The guitars twanged and swooned like the best in that genre. This easily stands alongside the great singles released by Sarah Records and the C86 bands. But there’s a dramatic side to the twangs and swoons which remind us of the early LPs by one of our absolute favourite band, Camera Obscura – by our measurement there is no higher praise we can give!

The LP ‘Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming’ is excellent. Our favourite track is ‘The Garden’, but there aren’t any duff tracks so before the band started, we knew we were on safe ground. Recent single ‘The View from Your Room’ is fab too. The crowd engagement and banter were good throughout, the band were obviously pleased to be playing and enjoying the interaction with the gathered masses.

This was an excellent opportunity to impress, and it was taken by the band. Lightheaded are from New Jersey in US, so let’s hope we impressed them enough that they’ll come back again soon.
