Looking to share great music, bands and help local venues

End of the Road Festival 2025 Review – Part 1

Thursday night was absolutely banging! Anyone not familiar with Getdown Services (main picture) may be surprised how much fun this duo from Minehead can generate.  Playing in front of “their biggest crowd” this band take your enjoyment very seriously indeed. None of this is going to change the world, but it may just change your mood for an hour or two. There are songs about crisps and TV chefs, why wouldn’t you love it! This was tremendous fun, a perfect antidote to the toxic outside world and a perfect start to the weekend.

We were up, and in the festival site early on Friday for Makeshift Art Bar (pictured below). Experimental and challenging this was very, very good. Dark and moody, brash and complex. If you aren’t aware of this young Irish band then it’s time to change that especially if you like their geographical and scene neighbours Gilla Band, Enola Gay and Chalk. No half measures, this was a full-on 45 mins onslaught of the senses with instruments attacked and eardrums in danger. We loved every moment of it.

The New Eves are on a steep upward protectory. In the damp of a Saturday lunchtime on the outdoor Woods stage, they won everyone over. Charming and wonderfully poised tunes performed with poise; this is a band that should be massive. The latest single ‘Cow Song’ was early in the set and followed by several LP tracks and even some new songs. Violin, cello, lead, vocals, bass and drums all working in perfect harmony to present us with a moment to embrace and to remember. Fantastic stuff!

By Sunday afternoon, everyone was damp, possibly very damp. You’d have to be a special band to lift the mood but that’s exactly what Adult DVD managed to achieve.  This band seems rightly confident in their own ability and will be playing much bigger stages and higher up the lineup in the future. A dance orientated vibe with an indie credibility this sounds strong and with a good shelf life. Multi-instrumental and percussion as well, there’s a catch to these songs. Don’t even try to prevent your feet joining in. Even the rain stopped, and the sun came out for the remainder of the day during this set. A band that’s able to change the weather? Possibly. That is all you need to know about this band.
