There’s a lot of noise if you are stood close to this band. The guitars scream and screech, there aren’t always a lot of words and lyrics in some of the songs and on occasions the only way to tell songs apart with all the feedback and reverb is a different drum pattern. But let’s be absolutely clear we loved it, this was right up there as one of the best gigs of the year.
We saw them at End of the Road Festival playing a lunchtime spot and were so impressed by that performance that we’ve headed to Rough Trade on a Sunday night. This four piece from Belfast looked all business when they arrived on stage, and for the next hour that was definitely what we got – a band taking their performance very seriously and delivering a blistering set for the audience. The comparisons with Gilla band and Chalk are rather easy to make but whilst it may be slightly obvious, it’s meant as a huge compliment to mention them in the same sentence.
The 2025 EP ‘Lackluster Writing Makes Fundamental Reading’ includes the two singles from 2024 and there’s been a subsequent collaborative single with Mount Palomar called ‘Pass The Parcel’. As this was an hour long set we assume there is enough material for an LP in the near future and there’s something to look forward to getting our hands on.
Lead singer, Joseph, encouraged those at the back of the audience to stand closer to the front for the last couple of songs in the set and people duly obliged. Clearly this is a band proud of what they do and really keen to use an opportunity to show you their work, and along with the rest of this Rough Trade crowd we really enjoyed it. It’s only the beginning of November so maybe a little early for proclaiming the gig of the year but this is a strong contender. Go and see them!
