Describing themselves as “a family”, 1000 Rabbits invited the crowd to join their group and be part of it. And as far as we could judge, the diverse and eclectic audience accepted the invite without hesitation.
Whilst there is a play on the album title, “Are we Friends Yet?”, it’s clear that everyone at Café Kino on this hot and humid late June evening was being asked that question and is now forever a part of the 1000 Rabbits family!
The album is extremely good, with highs and lows and containing melancholic as well as euphoric moments. And that’s exactly what we saw in front of us on the tiny but perfectly formed surroundings of Café Kino. Lead singer, River, showed us all of those emotions, and put whole body and soul into this confessional performance. Check out the album track ‘Spring Cleaning’ as a good example. A gigantic lead performance, full of stage awareness and an ability to communicate with the crowd.
We moved our hips a bit here as well though! There’s rhythm and drive present in most of the songs, overlayed with some explosive cuts from violin and wonderful atmospheric keyboard moments too. The band played some new songs here and everything about those suggested the future looks promising.
1000 Rabbits can be compared to many bands, and the description “art-pop” is often used. They reminded us of one of our favourite bands from a few years ago, Pozi. We’ve been playing the track ‘White Horse’ on Dandelion Radio in the last couple of months and as it’s the opener from the album it is both a good and a logical place to start. Highly recommended.
